about us
Virginia Skin Clinic

As a boy, Dr. Joly had a passion for arts and crafts - particularly sewing. He was fascinated by the way an article of clothing could be transformed by the judicious placement of a stitch, or by the thickness of the fabric used.
Today, Dr. Joly turns his aesthetic eye and meticulous sense of detail to the fine art of ophthalmic plastic surgery.
"There's no one way to do a blepharoplasty, or an eyelift," he explains. "My patients are all unique. I have to take into consideration the shape of their eye, the underlying bone structure, and the texture and resiliency of their skin. Every patient is different. I just love the creativity inherent in what I do."
A board-certified ophthamologist, Dr. Joly joined Virginia Eye Consultants in July 2005, where he specializes in cosmetic and functional surgery of the eyelids, including eyelid lifts, Botox® and Restylane® injections, brow lifts, laser skin care treatments, as well as endonasal lacrimal surgery and surgical treatment of Graves' Disease and orbital and eyelid tumors.
Dr. Joly attended John Carroll University in Ohio, where he graduated magna cum laude. He attended medical school at the State University of New york at Buffalo, where he obtained a dual M.D. degree and Ph.D. degree in the neurophysiology of the visual system.
He interned at Akron General Medical Center, concentrating on plastic surgery and rheumatology, and completed his ophthalmology training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He then pursued subspecialty fellowship training in ophthalmic plastic surgery and orbital disease at a world-famous orbital surgery center in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
In 2001, Dr. Joly returned to Cleveland as Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology of Case Western Reserve University, and also served as the Medical Director of the Lions Eye Clinic at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. He recently joined Virginia Eye Consultants as its Ophthalmic Plastic Consultant and Medical Director of the Virginia Skin Clinic. He is also on the faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology of Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Dr. Joly, his wife Lee, and their four children live in the Larchmont area of Norfolk. And in case you're wondering, he now buys most of his clothes. After all, he's too busy helping our patients look and feel their best to indulge in his childhood hobby.
